What is Lincoln's Collision Warning with Brake Support* feature?

Watch this video to learn about Lincoln's Collision Warning with Brake Support feature.

Your Lincoln has been designed with a feature that can help alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. The system uses radar to detect slower vehicles traveling in the same direction and warns you if you are rapidly approaching them. If this happens, a red warning light will illuminate on your windshield, and a warning chime will sound.

If you don’t react and continue to get closer to the other vehicle after the warning chime, the brake support will pre-charge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you brake, which may help you avoid an accident. Once your brakes have been pre-charged, even if you press them lightly, they’ll automatically apply at full force to help stop you quickly.

This system is designed to be a supplementary driving aid. It is not intended to replace the driver’s attention, and judgment, or the need to apply the brakes. This system does not activate the brakes automatically.

Failure to press the brake pedal to activate the brakes may result in a collision.

Warning System Sensitivity

You can change the sensitivity on the warning system to one of three settings, by using the five-way control on your steering wheel:

  • Scroll to Driver Assist > Collision Warning > Sensitivity
  • Select either High, Normal, or Low

The most sensitive setting will detect stationary objects near your vehicle, while a lower setting may lead to fewer and later warnings.

If collision warnings are perceived as being too frequent or disturbing, then the warning sensitivity can be reduced, though the manufacturer recommends using the highest sensitivity setting where possible. Setting lower sensitivity would lead to fewer and later system warnings.

Blocked Sensors

If a “blocked sensor” message appears in your vehicle’s information display, radar signals from the sensor have been obstructed. When this issue occurs, vehicles in front of you can’t be detected, and the collision warning system won’t function.

Sensors are located behind a fascia cover near the driver's side of the lower grille.

Here are some possible causes for this message and suggested actions to restore warning system functionality:

Cause Action
The surface of the radar in the grille is dirty or obstructed in some way Clean the grille surface in front of the radar, or remove the object causing the obstruction
The surface of the radar in the grille is clean, but the message remains in the display Wait a short time. It may take several minutes for the radar to detect that it is no longer obstructed
Heavy rain, spray, snow, or fog is interfering with the radar signals The collision warning system is temporarily disabled. Collision warning should automatically reactivate a short time after weather conditions improve
Swirling water, or snow or ice on the surface of the road may interfere with the radar signals The collision warning system is temporarily disabled. Collision warning should automatically reactivate a short time after weather conditions improve

Warning System Exceptions

Due to the nature of radar technology, there may be certain circumstances in which your vehicle won’t provide a collision warning. These include:

  • Stationary vehicles or vehicles moving below 6 mph (10 km/h).
  • Pedestrians or objects in the roadway.
  • Oncoming vehicles in the same lane.
  • Severe weather conditions. (See "Blocked Sensors" section above.)
  • Debris build-up on the grille near the headlamps. (See "Blocked Sensors" section above.)
  • Small distance to vehicle ahead.
  • Steering wheel and pedal movements are large, i.e., very active driving style.

*Feature is available on select vehicles. Features may vary based on model year, trim, options, packages, and supply availability. Use the Build and Price tool to view feature availability on current models. If you have questions or need more information, reference your Owner’s Manual or contact your Lincoln Retailer. Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment, and need to control the vehicle. Refer to your Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.
