How do I use SYNC®* AppLink®** with iOS®*** devices?

SYNC AppLink works with iOS devices, such as iPhone®, iPad® and iPod Touch®, iOS 6.0 and later. Apple® users must connect their device via USB*** and have a compatible app running in the background.

Note: Make sure you have an active account for the app you just downloaded. Some apps will work automatically with no setup. Others will require you to configure your personal settings and personalize your experience by creating stations or favorites. It is best to complete configuration and personalization before connecting your device to SYNC.

Instructions

Non-audio Apps

  1. Connect your iPhone using a USB cable to one of the SYNC USB ports. For the exact location of USB ports, please check your Owner's Manual.
  2. Open the app on your iPhone and have the app running in the foreground.

Note: Apple iOS devices (such as iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) use multitasking to allow you to quickly switch between apps. Multitasking allows some apps to run, some to run in the background, and some to be suspended. When your iOS device is connected to SYNC, apps that are not running will not appear.

  1. Press the Apps icon in the Feature bar at the bottom of your vehicle's SYNC touchscreen, or press the Voice button and say "Mobile apps."
  2. Press the icon of the app you wish to use on the SYNC touchscreen.

Note: You may be prompted with messaging asking you to enable mobile apps. Select Yes to enable mobile apps. When your choice has been confirmed, press Close, and re-select the app you wish to use.

  1. Use the SYNC touchscreen, steering wheel controls, and voice commands to control the app.

Audio Apps

  1. Press the Audio icon in the Feature bar at the bottom of your vehicle's SYNC touchscreen.
  2. Select Source.
  3. Press the icon of the app you wish to use on the SYNC touchscreen.
  4. Use the SYNC touchscreen, steering wheel controls, and voice commands to control the app.

How do I use SYNC AppLink with Android devices?

*Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
